Auditor-Controller finds gaps in Assessor's computer security controls

Review of more than 1,900 Assessor devices holding taxpayer data found weak user access, software and disposal controls.

Board of Supervisors· posted Jun 23Report

County auditors found the Assessor's office lacks documented checks on who can see property records, whether security software is installed, and whether hard drives are wiped before disposal, raising the risk of exposing taxpayer data. The Assessor agreed to all recommendations, with fixes planned by September 1 and September 30, 2026.
