Auditor finds gaps in Treasurer and Tax Collector purchasing controls

Review of more than 500 purchases totaling about $5.2 million found missing approvals and an after-the-fact order.

Board of Supervisors· posted Sep 14Report$5.2M

The county Auditor-Controller found the Treasurer and Tax Collector did not always get two required approvals for purchase requests, processed a purchase after goods were received, and had procurement staff handling receiving duties. The department agreed with all recommendations, with changes due between December 2026 and July 2027.

What happens next

Auditor-Controller will assess implementation during a follow-up review; department implementation dates run from December 2026 to July 2027.
