County review says misconduct investigators lack conflict-of-interest forms and written plans for cases nearing the one-year legal deadline.

The county Auditor-Controller reviewed how the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau handles misconduct investigations and found it does not document conflict-of-interest checks or written plans for cases nearing the one-year deadline to discipline deputies. The Sheriff agreed to most recommendations, with a new case system set to launch in early 2027 and a follow-up review planned.

What happens next

Auditor-Controller will conduct a follow-up review of the Sheriff's corrective actions.
